Caran d'Ache 849 Metal Fountain Pen Fluorescent Yellow

The 849 Fountain Pen adds to the iconic range from Caran d'Ache that began with the ballpoint pen and the mechanical pencil. Its fluorescent yellow hexagonal, aluminium body is tough yet streamlined, and the overall design is one of simplicity.

The cap and its relationship to the rest of the pen, however, is something else. Whether capped or posted, the pen presents a beautifully linear form, interrupted only by the familiar chrome Caran d'Ache pen clip.

This is due to the design of the cap. The final 4mm is slightly narrower in diameter than the rest of the cap, which means it slots perfectly between the grip section and the rest of the barrel to protect the nib. In a similar way, if you want to post the cap while you write, it fits equally perfectly in between the end cap and the barrel. This makes for quite a long pen, but it's so well-balanced that it should still result in fatigue-free writing sessions.
